Long story but a friend of mine passed away about 6 months ago and I was in charge of handling his estate. One of the last items is dealing with his tech. He had an iphone 11 pro that was with ATT. I was paying the bill for a while just to handle any business issues that came up, but finally decided to shut the phone down. I called ATT and let them know the situation. He still owed like 60 bucks on the phone and then had a month of bills that I didn't pay. The ATT guy I spoke with basically told me don't worry about it - they would write it off.
So I finally got around to getting the phone unlocked so it could be used or sold and here's where the clusterfuck of ATT has me in a bind. They won't unlock the phone, they won't let me pay to unlock the phone and it is now blacklisted. I called CS yesterday and explained the whole situation - they had the notes on the account. They claimed they couldn't do anything over the phone and that I needed to go into a store. So after I told the guy he was an idiot, I went into the store with the death cert and all the documents I had. Still no dice - guy tells me I need to call CS back.
I don't really want to waste any more time dealing with ATT idiots so here's the question - Is there a reliable way to clear the blacklist and unlock the phone so it can be used with another carrier? I don't want to deal with any shady sites or download any malware trying to get this thing fixed. Any ideas? Phone is running ios 15.5 and I have the passcode and all the login info.
