Resident evil on Netflix is on my radar.

A buddy of mine just gave the whole plot synopsis for some Netflix movie that’s supposed to be out in two years. Something about robots and a girl and somehow related to tales from the loop. He builds sets so I’m not sure he’s all there. He started giving spoilers on the new Brad Pitt movie so I left the convo.

speaking of netflix, this drops later this month:

im intrigued because what with the budget and the ad campaign underscoring that this is probably the last hurrah for hyperbudgetted non-hollywood productions, i imagine it will be an accidental celebration of Roman-caliber excess and probably a viable short signal for $nflx.

48% RT so far. The idiot in the LA Times who admittedly didn't read the source material didn't say very nice things about it. I'll probably love it.

heres the thing about Grey Man on netflix.

whats the point of sinking millions and millions and millions of dollars on action sequences and sets and gratuitous camera tricks if you dont bother to write a fucking script?

the whole thing felt like a spin-off from the bourne franchise but somehow less nuanced.

if this thing had a 20m budget id say quite a few people deserve to be fired over it. but it had a $200,000,000 budget.

30 years ago we would be joking how 190m went to the 'catering budget' aka drug dealers and whores.

there is absolutely no fucking way they burned through 200,000,000 of god's american dollars making this, least of all considering they must not have paid the writers more than a few hundred dollars and a six pack of fresca.

did netflix get some sort of tax writeoff to make a very, very poor fidelity knockoff daniel craig / james bond film?

because i cant think of any other way this happened unless 50 cents of every dollar got redirected to a black fund.

        absolutely fucking absurd.

so theres a documentary on hbo called 'the anarchists' about this anarchy convention in acapulco that ended up spiraling into complete moronic violence for all the obvious reasons.

let me say first and foremost that it might be the worst documentary ive ever seen on hbo. something like 90+ minutes of the 4 hours ive watched so far has been like bitcoin related.

and its frustrating because the source material is actually completely insane and mind blowing. the crew filmed this shit for like 3 or 4 years and eventually there was a cartel hit on one of the central dirtbags. but somehow they make it incredibly boring and tedious to watch.

its a real 'snatching defeat from the mouth of victory' situation honestly. because the footage that isnt directly involved with the murder and the lunatics directly involved is mostly focused on normalizing the worst people in the entire fucking world and its stomach turning.

First episode was promising and after 3 episodes we were still in the same place. Haven't seen the latest episode, but yea it's really really slow and somehow they're fucking up the show when they had so much to work with.

Grey Man was entertaining and at least audio/visually stimulating in 4k OLED Atmos glory.

Don't bother with resident evil. It's awful. I mean how do you fuck up zombies? Well they did by turning it into some teenage angst show.

this show is really bottoming out. its like they have no idea what to do with the footage they have so they are just kinda splashing around, trying to piece it all together somehow.

also last night they cut to one of the film makers while he was interviewing like 2x while he was asking questions and it was jarring and weird and also incredibly amateurish and unprofessional.

                which kinda begged the question; what the fuck am i watching? so i did some research and a lot of questions got answered;

                https://www.imdb.com/name/nm5458840/

this whole thing is this dudes baby.

now look at the dates of the footage in his series and look at the dates on his IMDB bio.

basically he was filming the anarchy conf in 2016 and thats a year before his first actual project, so i think what we have here is some guy who went to the conf for a few years, brought his camera, recorded a bunch of footage, leveled up financial backing and resources as the drama ratcheted up, and then kinda woke up with a golden ticket once one of the principles got murdered.

seriously can anyone remember a worse documentary on hbo?

i never imagined anyone could fumble something like this.

i think the core issue here is that the director / show runner is so basically in love with the 'anarchist' movement that he couldnt frame these people honestly. because these people are just... the absolute worst type of clowns.
