ok so a couple of RoP things.
1) ive never seen a show so ruthlessly spoilered within minutes of it airing. the sauron reveal was literally splashed across every sosh media feed, it was fucking bizarre. and literally it was sites like av club doing it who should know better.
2) honestly just what the fuck is this plot? sauron tricks them into basically inventing magical nukes and then dips without taking his? really?
bonus point
3) holy shit those rings look like they came with a mcdonalds happy meal.

hey so interesting thing about Industry... it does really, really bad numbers right but not only does it cost virtually nothing to produce, but BBC picks up a large part of the tab.
so yeah we might actually get a season 3.

the sheer absolute laziness of not a single principle character dying in a goddamned volcanic firestorm that set horses on fire but miraculously didnt so much as damage anyones fucking hair.
lol wait thats right... somehow the queen is now blind. but no one else is. ok.
also we are over 7 hours into this and the only interesting characters are the 3 weird ass albino death elves and we literally have no idea who or what they are or what they are doing or why.
but watching them fuck up some harfoots was nice. credit where due.

and that dovetails splendidly into your comments about how lopsided and distracting RoP is. i marvel at how many things need to go wrong for a show like RoP to completely whiff on getting me actually interested.
a pyroclastic flow is meters away from engulfing 80% of the principle characters. im supposed to be on the edge of my seat. i do not feel on the edge of my seat. even if they were about to wipe 80% of the characters off the chess board, id not care. but they arent. and im curious to see how they pull that off, not because im invested in the 'hero' characters success but because i simply want to see what the writers think they can get away with next week. thats my entire motivation at this point. im rubbernecking this show one week at a time.

Pitting it against HoD is pretty interesting. They both had training scenes and battle scenes few days apart. Happy accident type of a thing. RoP had immortal beings and human super soldiers. HoD had kids. RoP had an epic battle scene with hundreds/thousands lasting 30 mins or so with god knows how much build up. CGI magic with destruction and fire. A literal volcano eruption and other retarded shit against the embodiment of evil. HoD had five:ish kids with a rock and a knife.
HoD won that comparison. Better choreography, better acting, more suspense and massively more impactful in every way imaginable. I have no idea how it's possible that their execution could have been so far apart from each other.
RoP had their lead actress in both scenarios. Someone who is supposed to carry the show. HoD had random kids we've seen either in the same or previous episode for the first time. They had maybe 5 mins of screen time before. Fairly sure they get replaced by older actors in the next episode or two. Galadriel is supposed to be around for another 45 episodes.

i absolutely detest reviews like this.
"more songs"? whoever wrote this is 1) morbidly obese and 2) surrounded by cats. fucking book it.
also apparently poppy is nori's mom and my hand to christ's beating heart i would have never imagined that was the case, i assumed they were siblings.
related; the notion that harfoot's occasionally fuck is destroying me.

heres the crazy thing about RoP... if you told me the budget was $2m an ep, and that this was just some crazy off the cuff investment in some childhood dream Bezos had, i think i might actually like it.
like when i stop viewing it through the relentless onslaught of branding / advertising and absolutely indefensible expense, its almost charming in its amateurish and deeply naive community theater vibe.
like as of ep 5 i dont give even half a shit about the racial weirdness. but i catch myself constantly trying to spot where the money went, really to the point of distraction. and i honestly really do need to be distracted because the dialog and pacing are the doggest of shit. and theres no such thing as good acting when dialog and pacing are fucked beyond redemption because nothing carries these allegedly intense moments.
it just feels like a fantasy soap opera for the barely pubescent.
also im betting that season 2 is actually much better. we've seen it before. a lot of the shows we regard as fairly legendary at this point had _very_ borderline first seasons but tons of buzz, so they worked out some kinks going into the 2nd season and started finding their stride. this really could be one of those shows.

goddamned... vince gilligan just nailed a 2 season deal with apple tv for a vaguely avant garde sounding drama featuring rhea seehorn. budget is 10-15m per ep.
super intrigued.
