  • How american Trump supporters and antivax resulted in the first nonbinary Canadian mayor (find out tomorrow if true)

Pretty sure all here are aware of the protests and occupation in Ottawa back in February. As is typically the case for such intense protests it only serves to further divide the populace on such issues. The result has been very negative in Ottawa towards the antivax and Trump crowd. During protests several heroes were made such as Zexi Lee https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottaw...ting-1.6394429 (now running for city councilor) and the top anti convoy city counsellor Catherine Mckenney.

The following describes her rise to fame during the occupation During the “Freedom Convoy” protest last winter, Ottawa councillor Catherine McKenney joined a council meeting live from occupied downtown. Article content

While most councillors appeared on the video call from home — a regular practice during the pandemic — McKenney was instead wearing an N95 mask while strolling through the city’s downtown core, where jerry cans were piled up next to trucks adorned with Canada flags.

“The stench of diesel fumes right now is actually sickening,” McKenney reported.

”We’re never f***ing leaving’,” yelled a man in a tuque walking by McKenney.

“Hi there,” McKenney replied, not missing a beat.

Residents were under siege from the “mayhem,” McKenney told council, imploring the city to do something to clear the streets of the vehicles and protesters.

Later during that council meeting, McKenney tore into Mayor Jim Watson, saying they had lost all confidence in him. (McKenney uses they/them pronouns.)

Catherine is non binary and there is no doubt she (correction they) would not be in this position if not for their role in fighting the convoy. Tomorrow the election for mayor will occur. Unless there is some huge shift they will come out on top and become Canada's first non binary mayor. For those not familiar with with the political climate in Ottawa voters tend to be liberal (left of centre) but not nearly as left as those out in BC.

I will admit there are two big things that could cause Catherine to lose (their supporters are younger and have worse turnout and there is a significant portion of populace who wont vote for someone who is none binary).

thats a super interesting dynamic you bring up; shit-giving about gender / identity drops exponentially the younger the polled audience is, and yet the younger the polled audience is, the less likely they are to engage in the system by voting.

      So it didn;t happen.

Mckenney lost. Quite the blowout and was called with 6% of votes in (now half in and 12 point lead). Will be interesting to see why the polls were so off.

I have to say it's very interesting to see how support on the left is being over represented in these polls. Mckenney lost by 12% and was consistently polling above 5% lead sometimes as much as 10%. They we have in Hamilton the 16 year leader of provincial NDP (left political party in Canada) polling 8 percent ahead and wins by just one percentage point in what should have been a shoe in. It really seems like left voters are not showing up or right voters are underrepresented and refusing tro participate in such polling. Also neither of these cases were extreme leftist and fairly mainstream candidates with little to no baggage.

I get these are municipal polls but if something similar happens in USA in the next few weeks the dems are in a world of hurt.

yeah its a legit red wave. half the country wants the united states to be christian. said without irony or sarcasm; its going to be the 70s again. right down to the suspiciously well funded leftist terrorists.

this is the only narrative that makes sense to me because i cant imagine the left being like 'oh well roe v wade is gone, lets sit this one out' but see post above about biden for the opposing thesis.
