well well well, WB is done obliterating projects, they claim.

i think theres actually a non-insignificant chance they bring back raised by wolves and maybe even westworld in the next couple of years, perhaps for abbreviated seasons.

watched the first ep of Last of Us.

tbh im not really in the mood for like horror and without question the game is better but you know, shits pretty good, all things considered.

its honestly not super clear to me how they stretch this out into a whole ass movie. im concerned its going to morph into a basic ass road trip film with a bunch of body horror and random opps popping up to complicate things. but im going to give it a chance.

would prefer that westworld final season tho, ngl.

look i might take a pass on Last of Us.

the world is fucking horrible enough, i dont need this shit. also the whole schtick with the girl saying "IM NOT INFECTED" when she 100% is infected but just not getting worse or passing it to other people, combined with the very creepy anti-vax porn vibes (that i honestly think are for all intents accidental) is enough to get me off this train after 1 ep.

also im sorry its just weird to choose now to make this. at best its in bad taste. this show went into production in 2021, hbo greenlit it in november of 2020.

like yeah lets nuke the last fucking season of their marquis series westworld, lets clip raised by wolves even tho its budget is like $50 and a six pack of fresca per episode, and lets spend $15,000,000 PER EPISODE on a show where a child gets euthanized with a shot in her arm by a FEMA worker in the opening minutes.

i dont need to have the context explained to me, i get the context, ive played the game, im up to speed. you cannot tell me with a straight face that its not inflammatory at face value at a time when no one needs this shit inflamed more.

like whats next for hbo? a wry quick witted dramedy where hunter schafer plays an antifa-aligned librarian who hosts drag shows and then stumbles into an emotional affair with a 13 year old?

I didn't mind the pilot for Last of Us. All that being said I'm very oversaturated with zombie end of the world stuff. For me if I'm gonna invest 10 plus hours in a TV series or video game if it's gotta be original. I never played the last of us so I'm skeptical that the series will be able to offer that.

That being said I was really surprised by sweet tooth and looking forward to season 2 later this year. It really is quite the emotional experience (not always a big downer either).

i got sucked back into last of us because it feels literally the only big budget marquis series on right now meaning every fucking sunday/monday/tuesday my feed is dripping with teasers and spoilers so i might as well just gut it out. spoiler alert i fast forward through a lot of the creepy/suspense stuff because really i dont care. shout out to a lot of really sloppy continuity errors / makeup glitches that piss me off as well.

in any case, yeah im feeling that quest for original content and it would be nice if it wasnt grief porn, thats a huge bonus.

aaaand showtime is now in the business of scooping up cancelled netflix shows. they just grabbed some neil patrick harris trash show that netflix dumped after one season but its an interesting precedent to set.

Out of the weekly stuff I'm watching, Last of Us, Your Honor, Chippendales and Alchemy of Souls might be the full list.

Last of Us is the only one I'd recommend. Hate the kid.

Your Honor has Cranston in it and there's really few crime shows on atm. Chippendales has Juliette Lewis and it isn't as gay you would expect. It does take forever to get to the coke and murders part. Also some of the side plots could have been given more airtime, like Dorothy Stratten and her questionable taste in men. Somehow Hef and Bogdanovich were the more reasonable ones. That's even after Bogdanovich started dating her 13 year old sister.

Oh and Alchemy of Souls is just a standard Korean Fantasy show.

Speaking of Cranston, I'm rewatching Malcolm in the middle (safe to watch when daughter is up with us). The writing for that show is amazing and Cranston is quite possibly the greatest actor ever in terms of versatility.

watched last weeks ep of last of us and it was honestly very goofy. the character writing is abjectly bad. also someone needs to explain why the area under the suburbs of kansas city was mysteriously hollow and packed with bads and how a truck driving into a house mysteriously punched through the roof and freed them all.

also the notion that anyone would lock up all the bads in an enclosed space but not just soak them in fucking gas and toss in a match is just... terrible writing.
