...about a week ago they sentenced 200 members after the biggest organized crime trial ever or since the 90s. There's some unbelievable stuff in their past that would seem unrealistic for movie or show. Like the 4k ppl village San Luca where some of the oldest and most influential clans come from. It's believed every male citizen is member today. Their 15 year kidnapping streak was mostly just to raise capital. They used it for public construction deals and eventually taking over the cocaine trade in Europe. The whole building their own port, just to have full control of it. The Vice document shortly mentions that. They also touch it a bit how they got to their position.
There's also a small mention about La Santa. That was part of their first civil war. La Santa is a small group of members that're allowed to interact with anyone that has sworn an oath to any entity that isn't their own clan. Everything from police, politicians, judges, priests, soldiers etc. Russian Vor had a similar thing before the fall of USSR. Bratvas today don't care about it. Anyways that culminated in firing the entire Reggio Calabria's city government, because it was suspected that they were either members or just corrupted. Mayor and 30 councilors.
