Figured i might as well make a Jan tv thread, instead of trying to find where every post this refers to are.

Rebel Moon wasn't great. I think it's a scrapped Star Wars script that Disney didn't want? Anyways it's a weak 7samurai/magnificent7 remake kinda thing with a lot of convenient coincidences. They spend maybe 80% movie gathering the posse and we go through some backstory related to characters no one cares about. Fairly sure Magnificent Seven did that in about 10 minutes and rest the character development/backstories was weaved organically with the rest of the story. Last time i saw it was in the 90s and i still remember 5/7 characters and the bad guy. The 2/7 i couldn't remember were Steve McQueen and Brad Dexter btw.

I saw Rebel Moon maybe a week ago and it's already mostly a blur.

Slow Horses was great. I had forgotten Gary Oldman was from UK.

Fargo is still great. There's still 2 episodes left and they would have to be abysmal for s5 to be worse than s3/s4. If they're decent, s5 might end up being better than s2 as well.

Saltburn was decent. It reminded me of 2 other things, but mentioning them would be a spoiler.

...it's might be ok. Marvel thingie with Kingpin in the less super power dominated part of the universe. Daredevil does some stuff and apparently Echo is a random character that first appeared in 1999. She ticks like 3-4 minority boxes, but i'm sure there are other reasons for why this was greenlit.

S3 of High Town also starts at the end of the month. First 2 seasons were ok. Cop thingie.

I ran out of random stuff to play in the background so i subbed to Crunchyroll. They have a backlog of 1089 episodes of One Piece. New episodes are still released weekly.

Echo was retarded. Daredevil was around 60s and Hawkeye for 30s. Hawkeyes scene was amazingly stupid. Maybe it makes sense, if you've seen his single season show. For unknown reasons the writers think someone has.

There's about 20 mins of completely pointless flashbacks. Every conversation takes forever since they're always in sign language. There are dramatic pauses for emphasis. Every episode has 2-3 silent bits. Half of them don't make any sense. The deaf main character is looking at people talking towards her. I'm guessing because the director is retarded and believes that best lipreaders can only understand 30% of what's being said.

Visual cues in isolation when pronouncing stuff are similar enough that an average lipreader can isolate around 30% of letters/syllables from other stuff. That's mostly for English. Letters like p and b are similar. In isolation pussy and bussy are the same. In practice most deaf people can give a very precise educated guess from context. That results in understanding about 90% of what's being said.

im watching the hulu documentary on the 'mormon manson' which is nice so far.

also all the john wick movies up to the most recent are on netflix so i finally watched them. id never go so far as go call them good but for what they tried to be, they succeeded where countless others have failed. whatever. im a cheap date.

John Wick's are fine. Continental came out few months ago. Spinoff/prequel for the movies with 3 episodes.

Fargo finished and overall it was great. I didn't hate the ending, but i wouldn't have gone that route.

Griselda was pretty bad. It's like a Narcos spinoff that was given to the team behind Rings of Power. Character of Rivi was ok, even if he has very little to do with his real world counterpart.

griselda is reallllly dumb. never mind the decision to present her as a sex symbol, they basically compressed a 30 year history into 3 fictional years instead of just giving them multiple seasons to tell the truth. what a wasted opportunity.
