    So you think you has a bad day

    I have mentioned before that I am a petroleum engineer, which is pretty much a 60% nerd desk job, but as you move up they like to give you side jobs. My side job is "catastrophic event coordinator". Its my job round up the proper troops and make sure all the rules are followed when something Bad happens.


    heavy thunder storms and high winds....several million dollars later (took out a well head)





    This all happened 80 miles away as I was getting in bed. FML

    you know, a lot of my friends make a lot more money than me at their day jobs, but they also havent been able to mute their phones at night for a long ass time. i genuinely feel like ive got the better deal.

      I am totally owned by oil, and i know it. The best I could do outside of oil working for the man in considerably less than half of what i make now. It is the reason I save 80% of what I make. I have a strong desire to not be owned. My father is Dave Ramsey on steroids, and has always preached NO DEBT. I turn thirty in December own a home (thanks dad) thats a whole other story, have never had a credit card, or a car payment.

        you know whats funny... i recently watched an interview with a particularly well regarded american artist and his singular piece of advice to everyone within earshot was never get into debt, never buy anything on credit. like that was it for him, everything else was secondary. i found that remarkable and the more i considered it, the more i realized the iron in those words. wish someone had said the to me when i was like 15 but lets be real, i didnt have ears for it until pretty recently, truth be told.

          My monthly nut is under $500 including property taxes

            I will confess to the whole house thing, My father saved enough money for me to go to a state school, books, dorm and a cafeteria pass. I ended up getting a scholarship so my dad invested the money and built me a house with the money 2 years ago.

              my property taxes alone are around $950 a month so theres that but you know, what can you do.

                In all honesty I wouldn't bitch if mine were that as long as I didn't have to live in the middle of a oil field in BF North Dakota.

                BTW sonatine, I can't believe you didn't comment on the drone shots. If you ever want to talk drones, I am your guy. I am as deep down that rabbit hole as you can get.

                  lol cheers. honestly i had an incredibly shallow level of interest in them, i just wanted flight programming and before this gen of DJI it was considered an exotic / fringe interest. honestly at this point im pretty much sorted.

                    In all honesty they are a mediocre toy at best, but as a tool they are becoming priceless. 3d mapping, thermal imaging...
