  • industry season 4 thread because they earned it

i dont know if ive ever seen a series this good before.

also to my very real surprise, they are signed for a 4th season.

they could have ended it tonight. easily. and the beauty of it all, is that they will probably not disappoint with the next season. they might. but they have earned my trust. by absolute miles.

    Mildly spoileresque thingies...

I didn't really like the ending, but it does reflect the locked in s4.

After the 7th episode reeled the show back on tracks, the finale dropped the ball by playing it safe. Harper is by far my least favorite character because of her plot armor. Somehow Yasmin is more likeable as a mildly useless nepo baby, but at least when she is getting glazed I don't get the impression that writers are doing that as an exposition dump to be taken too seriously.

Oh well, everything is set up for s4 with a relatively clean board again and it can be a mostly standalone block, with few callbacks while keeping the base characterization intact. I wouldn't say there has been any major character growth or even added depth. I don't think a few mins mini redemption arc for Harper counts, when she more or less reverses that in the next scene.

Show is still entertaining, but the first half was way stronger. My favorite part of the finale was the reminder of this song...

...can't remember original song for the sample. I think the instrumental was from Blue something by someone.

      morning coffee thoughts.....

yeah harper is an interesting study at this point. she appears to have accepted completely that shes a whole ass literal psychopath and recognized that in her field, shes one of many and in good company. also given her appetite for criminal risk and her wanting to start a short only fund, one of the riskiest and most volatile decisions she could make, im going to expect we meet some new faces next season by way of the SEC.

and speaking of very fucking hot water, a lot of C levels were going to jail in the last few years. gotta wonder if its just robert's dharma to end up in handcuffs.

rishi was the one thread i have the most trouble accepting. not because i found his fate unrealistic but because i honestly dont get what happened to his wife. that felt like a poorly motivated moment. to the point where it kinda took me out of the shows vibe.

as for yasmin, its a bit fascinating that shes become the defacto center of attention. shes the most well written, the most well defined, and her motivations are both incredibly complicated and spectacularly logical and pragmatic. and the note on which we leave her is pitch perfect.

curious to see if eric even appears in the next season...

the show runners did drop some hints about it btw; they said essentially that industry is moving off the trading floor and focusing more on the broader stage, particularly with regards to politics.

and that means henry will likely remain in the mix, and by extension yasmin of course. it also stands to reason that with jessie out of jail and a piece on the board again, gus would return, considering his role in the political scene before he was cut loose.

anyway its interesting how the 'winners' in the show are the people who insulate themselves from consequences and the losers and weak are the ones who dont/cant. dovetails well into the political vibe of season 4.

also did i misread that scene with henry or is it implied he caught hiv?

also one other weird dynamic was harpers beef with rishi. rishi did nothing to her. harper tried to have him fired simply to protect her own position after the scheme she dragged eric and rishi into imploded and she needed to hand bill some sacrificial lambs. and that was the moment where the look on eric's face was literally 'ohhh yeah this chicks a fucking psychopath and its time to cut her loose'. and the next time we see rishi, harper is confused because she had suggested he be fired to appease bill, and bill agreed, and she thought she was in the clear. that harper accuses rishi of essentially plotting to fuck her over with eric, and rishi somehow ends up saying yes, there was a weird conspiracy to do so, is a very bizarre turn of events.

ok big piece of the puzzle just fell into place; that was the series finale.

the show got renewed for season 4 literally 11 days ago.

the show runners deliberately moved everyone around on the chessboard so they could end up back in each others spheres but i think its going to feel more like Traffic basically, for example with Harper targetting Robert's startup and potentially putting Robert on yet another cross while doing so in a way that could put her right next to him, yada yada.

hopefully we dont have to wait another 2 fucking years to find out.
