  • STOP FUCKING AROUND IMMEDIATELY AND WATCH "ZEROZEROZERO"

GUYS SERIOUSLY HOLY SHIT ITS FROM THE GUY WHO WROTE GOMORRAH

I think i stopped watching it around ep 4 or 5. I ran out of suspension of disbelief.

Saviano mostly writes non fiction. The book this is based on is his argument for legalization of all drugs. The show doesn't care about that.

Nicest thing i read about the show was "all style, no substance". They are fairly good at getting the exterior details right and they poured a lot of money to this show. The glaring weakness of the show is how it depicts people in the trade.

And that's about all i can say without spoiling anything.

ugh thats disappointing. i wrapped ep 2 last night and was like ok cool its a third version of 'traffic'. that it plunges soon explains a lot honestly.

so gutted through it while coding some shit and honestly, i give it a B+. the weak point was definitely the brokers plot arc and i thought the way they constantly folded in flashbacks was a bit too tedious to be made like a core device for moving the plot forward.

the vampiros shit was fucking aces. the italy shit was ... good. id have preferred if somehow this was 3 different seasons, one for each plot arc...? something like that...?

but yeah fucking gorgeously filmed, great soundtrack (also guy from gomorrah).. i feel like i got my moneys worth.

Yea my biggest gripe with the show was that the American kids would have been dead half a dozen times between ep 3-6 or that in the real world they would have never been anywhere near the shipment. Babysitting a shipment isn't the part they play.

And trying to squeeze everything in 8ish hours was a bit too much.

Vampiros part is essentially a fast forwarded caricature of Los Zetas.

On a related note 10th year anniversary edition of Gomorrah is out from Saviano. Extra 100 pages. Likely something about the backlash from the book and why Saviano is still in Italy's version of WITSEC.

It took Zetas 13 years to break up with Gulf Cartel. In the show, few months.

normally those are totally the loose threads i live to yank, but yeah i just found whatever center i needed to ride with this comfortably. its all prose/comic book hot takes, admittedly, but again very stylishly done.

Reasonable and why i rarely critic most shows. People see different things and different things click to them. For me even the base premise was weird assuming the show is dated around 2010ish. At that time 'Ndrangheta was the biggest importer of drugs in Europe.

There is no equivalent to Lynwood family in the book. Closest thing to a broker at the time would have been Roberto Pannunzi. Guessing the Lynwood's were added for an Anglo-American angle. They spent the most screen time in trying to make them (out of all characters) at least a bit sympathetic. The whole inhering the business and random Huntington disease. Rest of the plot arcs are patched around them.

Dunno how well Gomorra did in the English speaking world so it might have been a good idea to go with the Narcos route.

Pretty sure I told you this months ago in the Gomorrah thread of all places. You should finish it if you haven’t. It’s really good.

                    i absolutely second this.

for all its flaws, it sticks a few landings at the end. reasonably artful shit.
