i fucking love this show but i actually get why a lot of people hate it.

like honestly it gives people sooooo many excuses to shit on it. all the characters are ultra loathable and broken. all of them. there isnt a single 'hero' among them.

their motivations are venal and often in several ways at once. but so well acted..

and it somehow stops short of giving anyone in the audience exactly what they want. the finance goons hate it because incredibly minor details about the finance are unrealistic and because the culture is deliberately exaggerated at times. the people looking for another lena dunham girls experience hate it because its never, ever funny and because its so technical. and who else is going to watch it, and why?

but yeah its a fucking gem in the rough.

im extremely hopeful but also not at all confident about season 2 happening. its unclear where they can take this without alienating people. my hope is they stop flirting with the gambling addiction / risk addiction themes from season 1 and just dive the fuck in. the scene of harper glaring at the screen, waiting for her losses to evaporate, then failing to get off the horse because she wants MOAR was so good and i wanted so badly to see the show hang off that moment but honestly the whole ass rest of the series was about relationships pretty much and i feel like we have enough shows about relationships, show me one about people gambling on the market for a fucking living please.

but whatever, honestly im on board. it earned my respect.

In other HBO MAX news The Little Things is awful.

i respectfully suggest that we crowdsource whoever is lining up Tom Cruise's projects for Jared Leto because man... i feel like hes got so much to offer but he keeps making me feel foolish for it.

I thought Leto was the best thing about the flick but for sure he should be making better choices about the movies he does. I don't blame him for making this movie but it's like nobody read the script and before you knew it Denzel and Rami were attached so what could go wrong?

full disclosure i didnt watch it yet, but i saw leto in the mix and i just made certain assumptions.
