    Navinder Singh Sarao, a London trader, living at his parents house, who made ~$70M from his bedroom and was later accused by the U.S. government of playimg a role in the 2010 Flash Crash.


    Nav posted on financial forums. He was described as funny and a troll. Can you find these posts?

    I just thought this was an interesting story. Had no idea it was green kit for a movie. Now I’m definite gonna have to get the book too.

    my copy doesnt arrive until thursday and im already getting antsy.

    biggest concern is one of those situations where the author has no idea what happened so they augment the actual details with a few hundred pages of roshomon style round table interviews about that one time when his poor family couldnt afford a mango on his grandmothers birthday so he vowed to etc etc.

    fuck outta here i just want to know how far out of the money his options were.

      how much do you want to bet that as soon as his legal troubles vanish, a lot of those funds will miraculously re-appear at about the same time he receives his costa rican resident visa.

          i wonder if hes ever considered teaching level 2 tape reading... id absolutely drop a grand without consideration for the privilege of learning directly from him.

              its funny because i feel like people tend to focus on the periods later in his trading career where he was spoofing (in response to the spoofing taking place from institutional traders) instead of focusing on how he made _millions_ of dollars riding ES_F trades based on literally nothing but the tape.

              he was Extremely Fucking Good at that shit.

              also im going to start curating his old forum posts and posting them here.

                    one of the great details of his saga is mentioned here in passing... sarao had no interest in spending his money really. he just wanted to accumulate it in his trading account.

                    and what they kinda touch on in his biography is that this was very much an extension of his favorite hobby; that fifa soccer video game. narao was incredibly good at that game. he won tournaments. he spent thousands and thousands of pounds on replica fifa trophies and decorated his bedroom with them.

                    and sarao viewed his balance not as wealth or an opportunity, but as a high score.

                    i seriously might have to drop acid and meditate on that because its the fucking rosetta stone for being a profitable futures trader, innit.

                        of particular interest; apparently he generally traded 7 contract lots. i always assumed he was moving a lot more volume than that. he was, admittedly, spoofing 900 sized lots but yeah, the positions doing the actual profit were about 7 contracts.

                        so lets put this in perspective...

                        a 10 point shift in spooz on 7 contracts, which is literally a $1 shift in SPY, pays out $3500 on 7 contracts.

                        so to clear $90k... he had to essentially bink the equivalent of a $26 shift in SPY over the course of 24 hours with 7 contracts. on the average, SPY moves about .8% +/- over the course of a day, which is about $3-$4 of late.

                        im not understanding this math at all.

                        i wonder if the guy in that video meant he made $90k during the flash crash...? but i heard he wasnt actually even trading during the flash crash, just in the hours before.

                        fucking weird.

                          The more i think about it the more nothing is making sense anymore, i mean you dig and dig about info how exactly he did it and how it accumulated in the flash crash but the more you search the more wishy washy it gets, even the wikipedia page about the flash crash reads like "well people did research on it but its all not really clear how or why it happened but here look we have this little guy trading from his basement crashing a whole lot of HFT firms" , and then the whole story about all his money being gone because of crooks because he invested it all with them.
                          Normaly i am no fan of conspiracy theories but man everything about this somehow stinks to high heaven
