I watched at the at the time it started. There's a lot of good source material for the show. I think i lost interest after season one. I still watched season 2 and 3 but i wasn't really expecting them. The show was always good enough to fill some void in good tv.
Season 4 started now and first 3 episodes have been pretty solid.
I think my personal biggest gripe with the show was that i never liked Franklin. I liked the luchador and the uncle character.
There's the John Singleton angle, but that mostly only works if you forget that he kinda only did one good movie. That one movie relates a bit to the theme, but that's about it.Comment

what i love most about this show so far, and im about 2 eps into season 3, is that you can fast forward through every single scene that you actually want to fast forward through and the show holds up fine.
franklins mom? ff.
franklins dad? ff.
the cute next door neighbor? ff.
cia guys exwife? ff.
and the list goes on. and what youre left with when its all done is basically a big spoonfull of the wire plus a pinch of narcos and a pinch of gomorrah and honestly that hits the spot.
but yeah franklin as a character is truly awful and tbh not so well written. im not a fan of the whole 'inexplicably getting lucky constantly' vibe and thats basically his brand.
luchador is more or less carrying the show, which is weird and kinda/sorta unexpected.

so apparently they casually wrote off lucia and literally never even told the actor she was out. they just didnt call her back to the set.
also i havent been watching season 4 but according to gare its going to shit hard. worth keeping on the radar; john singleton died not so long ago so that may be why they have kinda pivoted from this being a 'traffic' esque mosaic on the birth of the crack to it basically being about saint. also naming him 'saint' is dumb as fuck and i want that on the record.Comment

Season 4 is fine by 2021 standards if you barely remember anything from the previous seasons.
The thing with Snowfall is that it wasn't really great by 2017 standards.
Singleton was least preachy on the only movie he's know for. The lead is a variation of him in that one movie and Snowfall. In snowfall i don't really know why he's alive.
I think on PFA i said Snowfall is about half a point better than Queen of the South that's about half a point better than the telenovela it's based on. Telenovelas have their own idiosyncrasies and American shows have their everyman hero shit. In this case apparently every dipshit that went to college can achieve greatness, because that's just how easy it's to rule the streets and international drug trade.

Quick glance at 2017, still running Got, Westworld, Vikings, Expanse, Black Sails, Gomorrah, Stranger Things, Better Call Saul, Narcos and newcomers like Suburra, American Gods or Ozark. And I'm likely forgetting 15 titles i would put over Snowfall in 2017. 30 seasons i would watch over Snowfall.
In 2021 i think i can come up with 5 and forgot another 5. Talking about seasons that stand on their own merit, not just nostalgia of early seasons.
On an unrelated note there's not a single reality-tv show/season i'd care about since 2017. I didn't mind first 6 seasons of BB, Survivor, Jersey Shore, Bad Girls Club, random fishing shows, gold digging and something stupid i forgot.Comment

binged season 4. honestly? didnt really hate it. it had a few good moments, i dare say. but it definitely feels like the writers are running out of clever / interesting / realistic places for this to go.
season 5 is signed, which i have to assume will feature franklin trying to stave off the cartels, and if that doesnt wrap shit up, i assume season 6 will.Comment
