Zeroth is about not harming humanity.

First law is about not harming a human. Second is obeying orders and third is protecting himself.

    Zeroth is first priority.

Killing humans is fine if it protects humanity.

Dunno where they are going with the character, but any book explanation would be very spoilery.

If you don't care too much about spoilers, then look up who invented Zeroth law and follow that trail.

word im going to avoid spoilers on principle and just see where they take this. but i dont mind flirting with the major thematic stuff being discussed in fan convos. like im not super emotionally invested in this to say the least but im also not at a 'ive decided to stop watching so im going to just look for a wiki page detailing where this goes' point, which honestly ive reached before with other things. like it does happen.

    so ahhhhhh some thoughts...

i think this was legit made for tweens.

    warden looks like chris rock.

    dusk looks like tommy chong.

the space russians look like gary numan, which is a nice surprise.

listen i just watched the season finale and honestly Lee Pace is just such a pure and total treasure. as always the empire scenes/narrative is flawless.

      everything else is abjectly disgraceful.

without getting into the terrible editing and plot holes and just endless opportunities to cringe i think what i find most consistently distasteful is the time jumps. they are absolutely impossible to keep track of.

close second tho is the digital blue tint on select characters eyeballs.

but yeah in any case, things end pretty much where they began; rooting for empire, dreading everyone elses shitty hair and clothes and narrative and dialog and motives and photography and exposition and wardrobes.

so yeah, season 2. finally finished it.

mixed feelings as always. for a show with so many female leads they dont seem to be getting better at writing for them.

demerzel's arc is interesting but i feel like they could have handled it better, it just seemed kinda inconsistent. like honestly i dont really understand who she is or isnt able to kill or why.

id have preferred that she deliberately guided empire into ruin somehow so she could catch 22 her self out of her programming and be free but clearly thats not her agenda, so honestly i have no idea why she let so much shit go left.

oh also the whole foundation leapfrogging empire with tech blindsided me completely which was odd.

and then we just have weird shit like the guards in the room attempting to keep dawn from running off with his cloud bae.

          lots of just weird inconsistencies.

and for what its worth the entire mind-control reality warping shit just felt tedious to me after like 30 seconds.

but every so often it really trotted out a banger, like the critters that fly to a near moon to feed when their home planet is close enough to it? that shit was clutch.

          anyway whatever.

also imagine if Lee Pace got to play Dr Manhattan...

season 3 is question mark city because of the writers strike allegedly. i dont think this show has much of a budget so i expect it will be back.

I mostly watched it. Somewhere around halfway to second EP with limited fast forwarding and then i've had it running in the background few times. To finish it off I watched the last 2 EPs without fast forwarding too much or doing something random on the side.

Lee Pace stuff is great. Some of Demerzel stuff was ok. Didn't really care about what anyone else was doing. There's stuff happening and then few episodes later someone tells the viewers what hella smart thing the heroes did that saved the day. Wouldn't really build a whole show around that storytelling "technique", but I guess they're happy with it and It's faithful to the spirit of the source material. Obv it's less tiresome in a written form.

Oh and Demerzel logic is pretty loose always. It's not really anchored in the source material since there wasn't any kind of genetic empire of Cleon clones. Zeroth law is replaced by some "can't harm the empire/emperor(s)" variant. No idea how it works, but I guess there's some can't ask infinite wishes type of a stipulation. Essentially a pretty vague honor system type of a deal.

There's so many inconsistencies and all around dumb shit happening that I've given up trying to make sense about any of the why/how parts of the show.

Yea that's just for the show. If you wanted an "accurate" adaptation, then most characters would be around for a single episode. That's one of the reasons why the books are considered impossible to adapt or why anyone would bother to watch.

There's 2 characters that are often around. One is basically a narrator and the other one sometimes effects the events mostly from the sidelines.

For budget/viewer reasons a lot of adapting choices were ok. There just comes a point when you're making so many changes that you can question using the name of an existing IP.

                      yuge season 3 drama (again).

basically they filmed about a third of s3 and then had to stop due to the writers strike. so apparently they were right about to start filming s3 again and someone at apple decided they needed to slash the budget so they sent everyone there home (!!!) until they can 'sort it out'. this... does not feel great.
