Alberta Canada has had many toxic pond leaks and gets worse every day.... i guess ducks and other water foul may think it looks like a nice place to enjoy a rest and a sip of cool clean water or a giant pool of toxic death.

      we are doomed.

Oil sands mining operations produce a toxic brew of water, sand, silt and petrochemical waste products. For over fifty years, the tar sands industry in Alberta has stored these tailings in enormous lakes that the industry refers to as “tailings ponds.” New research shows that these tailings have now surpassed 1.18 trillion litres and their volumes continue to grow each year.

I have some friends who live about a mile from there. We usually go out this week for spring break and have the kids hang out on my buddy's farm..ride dirt bikes, canoe, go the the beach, etc. Dodged a bullet not going this year. I guess we won't be crabbing or fishing there anymore.

When i was in the military there was a hogfarm miles away but on foggy days with the right wind conditions you could smell more like taste the stench of manure in the air
