In the early 2000’s we wrestled with asset tracking. A big market would be hospitals with expensive equipment. Less equipment needed to be purchased if you simply and quickly could determine where the fuck it was.

gimmicks like antennae wired into doorways which would pick up a signal as your heart monitor or whatever passed by. Expensive and crude but an interesting exercise. Hospitals and nursing homes bought this stuff.

Every new construction equipment like Bosch Blue, Makita, dewalt, milwaukee etc has now bluetooth and/or NFC receiver build in, all new cars who have to be sold in the EU market are mandated to contain a emergency telephone service who calls the nearest emergency service with GPS data in case your car overturns (pro tip: this will never be used someday in the far future to spy on people). Amazon ring is now the biggest camera surveillance system in the world and everybode here is totally controllable through their smartphone usage...

at the risk of restating the obvious, perhaps the single most significant paradigm shift in surveillance is amazon farming out footage to cops on request.

and right on queue, we have the private sector security firms stepping up to 'augment' available security services by drinking from the same trough and offering 'police as a service' to anyone willing to pay a premium for a faster response time.

Yea private firms catering to gov agency´s with no oversight is a real problem, also the DNA test by law enforcement from private companies is very problematic
