  • we are pretty fucking early on EVs ngl

    i went down an interesting couple of rabbit holes recently...

    * EV owners to the right of the rocky mountains are basically discovering that every single fucking winter, their cars are ass because batteries are extremely flaky in these temperatures.

    * there are soooo few chargers especially on the east coast. so you have to always wonder if your battery is going to basically lose half its remaining charge while youre in the grocery store but as a sweet fuckin bonus, there seriously might not be a charger within range if it does.

    * a lot of incredibly basic intuitive shit in the tesla app simply doesnt exist for other cars. i decided to download the 'electrify america' or whatever the fuck app that lucids use and 1) yeah no chargers near me and also, they dont even have stuff like trip planner, which tesla rolled out years and years ago.

    honestly all this shit is a little off putting. and at the very fucking least, until we see at _least_ 30% of gas stations have electric charging stations, shit man i dont know. gotta wonder if its all some sort of flash in the pan boondoggle.

      average cost of a used car is $26,200.

      cost of a brand new model 3 is $37k.

      average credit score of someone successfully applying for financing for a new tesla is 714.

      musk is marketing them as 'everymans' cars but range drops to less than 200 miles during cold weather and the car will literally stop reporting accurate range at that point, you just have to hope.

      musk just wants to make his numbers so hes flooding the market with these fucking things. the QA is dogshit, the tech breaks during cold weather, and we have saturated the 'i have a home so i can install a tesla charger in it' demographic and are now aggressively shopping these cars to the apartment renter crowd.

      and let me paint this in slightly broader strokes......;

      what do you think happens to the S&P 500 if tesla loses half its value?
