  • March TV things...

Figured i should do this before April. Nothing really exiting was slated for the month and i wouldn't say there have been any sleeper hits so far.

A Halo thing is coming. Maybe it doesn't suck.

Top Boy S2/S4 came out. It's like a worse Wire, but British. It was a 2 season mini series early 2010s show that got rebooted and because reasons the new seasons took over the previous ones names and older stuff is called Top Boy: Summerhouse S1/S2. It's ok.

Watched S1 of 1883. I think it started in December and finished in February. Yellowstone prequel thingie, with almost nothing in common. Sam Elliot is in it and a girl that looks too much like the girl from Hunger Games without being the girl from Hunger Games. There's more seasons greenlit and another prequel show for 1932 maybe.

Last season of The Last Kingdom came out. I'm still trying to watch season 4. It's still better than Vikings: Valhalla, but for unknown reasons half the cast can't pronounce Knut in either shows. It sounds like the Swedish word for canoe (kanot).

DMZ was whatever. There's few actors in it that i generally like, but it's just weak overall.

Oh and a new season from Peaky Blinders. Haven't seen it, but i mostly hated the last few seasons. First two seasons were fairly good.

Also a new season of Outlander, but i wouldn't suggest anyone to watch that. It's essentially a paperback romance novel series in TV format. I'd say i got bamboozeled into following it because of Romancing the Stone/Jewel of the Nile. There's time traveling, witch and history angle thingies that get progressively dumber.

As a general reminder to Sonatine, Black Sails, Dirk Gently and Man in the High Castle are all better than anything that came out this month so far. I might get hoodwinked into getting Starz because it's the only streaming service that has Black Sails here. Only other thing they have is 4 seasons of Power spinoffs. I'd be shocked if they didn't suck. Top Boy is somewhere between Power and Wire for scale.

Oh yea, S3 of Umbrella Academy starts in June 22nd. World might end before that. Witcher spinoff that looked awful still doesn't have a release date.

I am seriously thinking of doing something productive or at least a more detailed plan for doing something productive. If that fails, i might start crossing items from my to do list. Well i should probably first make new one or alternatively look for previous lists from the last 15 years.

Canceling my PFA sub is a strong contender to free up more time.

I wouldn't go so far as to say this is productive...

...but another mystery solved and that's likely something I'll remember the next 20 years while gleefully forgetting what i did the day before.

It would be at the very bottom of a long list of historical inaccuracies from aforementioned shows. Essentially by comparison Braveheart was a serious documentary.

Yea it was pretty ok. Quality dips at some point, but the last season was still fine.

lmao and then season 4 happened.

i feel like adrien brody's whole world collapsed after that SNL incident... like pre SNL we had The Pianist, and post SNL we have him doing Predator spinoffs and shit like season 4 of PB.

in any case season 4 just felt trashy and hacky and shark jumpy.

i mean honestly whatever its still better than the sopranos after season 2 but you can really see where they just doubled down on gimmicks instead of actual writing.

so glad i stuck with peaky blinders. the highs were much higher than the lows.

also i had no idea that helen mccory was damian lewis' wife.

                      related news;

Most method actors keep their antics on set, but Peaky Blinders's Paul Anderson took Arthur Shelby into the real world. More specifically, Anderson dragged him to court. Anderson pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine last week, and his lawyer alleged put the blame on his on-screen not-so-alter ego.
