    • HoD costs $20m per episode and it looks a thousand times better than RoP which costs about $60m per episode.

also as a bonus HoD really isnt bad and its getting better.

              • honestly i feel like HBO could simply refuse to renew the show because they cant fucking imagine what to do with the characters at this point and tbh id kinda get that.

                  Yeah it's thin

I tried some stupid Netflix bs that was in the top 10 and hit the eject button 20 minutes in. HoD is not bad. I can't bear to watch the business/empire dramas - it just reminds me of work. I got through 2 eps of the RoP series and it's just not very interesting to me. Rick and Morty has been pretty solid though!

                  • i really do have to take a step back and point out that HBO streaming fucking plays too much.

honestly this hot new trend of neither renewing shows nor cancelling them, just letting us fucking twist in the wind for weeks/months, this shit is duck.

and the more 'omg the writers for industry have some AMAAAAZING ideas for season 3' articles i see, the more desperate and transparent they get.

                    • goddamned... vince gilligan just nailed a 2 season deal with apple tv for a vaguely avant garde sounding drama featuring rhea seehorn. budget is 10-15m per ep.

                      super intrigued.

                      • heres the crazy thing about RoP... if you told me the budget was $2m an ep, and that this was just some crazy off the cuff investment in some childhood dream Bezos had, i think i might actually like it.

like when i stop viewing it through the relentless onslaught of branding / advertising and absolutely indefensible expense, its almost charming in its amateurish and deeply naive community theater vibe.

like as of ep 5 i dont give even half a shit about the racial weirdness. but i catch myself constantly trying to spot where the money went, really to the point of distraction. and i honestly really do need to be distracted because the dialog and pacing are the doggest of shit. and theres no such thing as good acting when dialog and pacing are fucked beyond redemption because nothing carries these allegedly intense moments.

it just feels like a fantasy soap opera for the barely pubescent.

also im betting that season 2 is actually much better. we've seen it before. a lot of the shows we regard as fairly legendary at this point had _very_ borderline first seasons but tons of buzz, so they worked out some kinks going into the 2nd season and started finding their stride. this really could be one of those shows.

i absolutely detest reviews like this.

"more songs"? whoever wrote this is 1) morbidly obese and 2) surrounded by cats. fucking book it.

also apparently poppy is nori's mom and my hand to christ's beating heart i would have never imagined that was the case, i assumed they were siblings.

related; the notion that harfoot's occasionally fuck is destroying me.

                          • HoD is good. but its definitely turning hard into horror-porn. i cant really fault it because lets be honest; the childbirth-as-rape vibe that we seem to be leaning into isnt entirely historically inappropriate given how much of this show is lifted from 'war of roses' era history.

but im also getting sick to my stomach a little by all the relentless soul destroying misery.

                            • the crazy part of all this is that when RoP gets cancelled they are going to 100% blame it on going up against HoD.

and thats not unfair but the other 50% of the story is RoP being theater kids with an army of costume designers.

We should at least get a mini series and/or few documentaries explaining what exactly went wrong with RoP. How it got made and where all the money went.

Pitting it against HoD is pretty interesting. They both had training scenes and battle scenes few days apart. Happy accident type of a thing. RoP had immortal beings and human super soldiers. HoD had kids. RoP had an epic battle scene with hundreds/thousands lasting 30 mins or so with god knows how much build up. CGI magic with destruction and fire. A literal volcano eruption and other retarded shit against the embodiment of evil. HoD had five:ish kids with a rock and a knife.

HoD won that comparison. Better choreography, better acting, more suspense and massively more impactful in every way imaginable. I have no idea how it's possible that their execution could have been so far apart from each other.

RoP had their lead actress in both scenarios. Someone who is supposed to carry the show. HoD had random kids we've seen either in the same or previous episode for the first time. They had maybe 5 mins of screen time before. Fairly sure they get replaced by older actors in the next episode or two. Galadriel is supposed to be around for another 45 episodes.
