watched Adolescence last night and its pretty much 100% as devastating as described. on the plus side, the whole thing feels like a david mamet production due to the reliance on long, patient shots. on the negative side, they sacrifice a lot of nimble storytelling by being overly reliant on those long single takes and it feels gimmicky.

eps 1 and 3 are money, ep 2 feels a bit obligatory, and ep 4 is technically superb with stephen graham demonstrating real mastery of the craft but ultimately struck me as failing utterly to match the intensity of ep3. like hard to fault it but it is what it is.

in any case, fucking intense stuff.

started Mobland. its weird to watch tom hardy age. 1 ep in and im not really impressed, it feels obvious and uninspired and im pretty sure i know what the 'plot twists' are already. it just feels pretty artless unless you really love watching people call each other cunts despite being tv-wealthy. one thing i really liked about peaky blinders is it did the notion of wealth and class correctly. mobland feels like its basically just lashing together cliches and hoping it sticks.
