            • its wild how the various factions are starting to gather together. it looks like burry prunes his twitter feed but he had a legit fire take on how silverbacks have seen this shit all before and #bulltrap is coming.

I think it appropriate to give Burry time to grieve.

in all seriousness, he’s superb and I believe unaffected by the attention cause ... well, you know. Aspy is a gift when used for good not evil

                • I finally got around to watching Margin Call with Spacey and Irons. I bet this is the type of movie tine loves to rewatch over and over since its an almost 2 hour depressing film with no hope, promise or redeeming ending. Just utter anguish and distress from start to finish

you fucking know i love to watch that movie like every 5 weeks.

its one of the most anxious films ive ever seen. kevin spacey's performance is breath taking and holy shit jeremy irons speech where he breaks down all the market crashes? that shit sends me.

like it has no weak points except perhaps demi moore and tbh i blame that on the writers and even she managed to find her character because shes an incredible artist.

                    "I need... the money."

whats funny is the first time i watched it, i was like ok i mean, i guess this is cool and then as it progressed i recognized the genius of it but i really didnt quite understand the technical nuances behind what was taking place.

the second time a lot more shit came together for me and i was able to appreciate that this was a shockingly well executed piece of film. it also seemed less depressing to me. like _everyone_ got life changing money. in a year or two, no one was going to give a shit about who decided what or who unloaded worthless securities on who. the only real sore spot was spacey losing his dog and getting a divorce.

the rest was all ego hits. like the scene where demi moore is like IF I GO DOWN YOU GO DOWN WITH ME and the dude is just like 'yeah ok, saying shit like that is part of being mad, but i know how this plays out and im not even concerned. youll see.' and he says it with one fucking glance as the elevator doors shut. like im sorry but thats a staggeringly great moment, thats just pure art. lots of moments like that if you look for them.

                    • like there arent a lot of adult movies about finance. in fact its possible there is literally one and its margin call.

                      • When Irons is first introduced, you expect him to be all angry and looking to split skulls but he couldn't have been anymore calm and relaxed. It was truly frightening. He knew that they just needed an escape plan so that they could live to fight another day. Didnt matter how many people lost jobs or relationships were ruined.

That speech at the dinner scene, although callous, it was true. Wolf of Wall Street borrowed that scene I feel with Leo and Matthew(where they talk about masturbating and how the market is bullshit) but here there is only 1 person in that restaurant and its Irons. He is the only one making the moves that matter.

                        • yeah i think its definitely part and parcel to the 'big picture sociopath c-level vibe' which is absolutely 100% a thing.

another indescribably high impact moment is when will is driving and explaining how everyone shits on banks but its the banks that extend them the credit to sustain their entire lifestyles, which is not only true but frankly understated when you consider how a brief failure in the credit market during the 2008 collapse brought america a cunthair away from empty ATMs and bounced paychecks:

honestly thats david mamet level writing.

                          • also will's rooftop breakdown of how his wealth gets tapped by taxes whores and cars is fundamentally epic.

                            • also how great is your timing onestep, bringing up Margin Call at a time when a huge swath of retail traders are, in fact, literally getting margin called.
