quantopia or whatever its called is on disney+ so i watched it. the effects were exactly what one would expect from an ant man film i guess.
good dose of kang. whats funny is the commercials were edited in a way to pretend its a very different / darker film that what it actually was, which now that i think about it was kinda the same story for dr strange's multiverse outing. but yeah its basically Very Stupid Trash if you carve out the kang factor and maybe thats just the ant man brand at this point. shrug.
if not looking like they are going to recast j majors and thats for the best because seriously he makes a good kang and no one else is going to fill those shoes right.

welp, thats that i guess.
SPOILER
thoughts....
not nearly as enjoyable as the first season but thats basically because the first season was more fun whereas this was basically a very griefy slog.
another thing that i feel some ways about is j majors kinda fucking up his take on kang completely. kang in season 1 seemed like a freaky charming space wizard and suddenly hes some street dude with super powers. so that was off putting. honestly majors whole roll as kang here seemed clumsy and abrupt and off. like basically he also outs the most intriguing parts / pathos of his character from the first season to be fake. he was never in danger, so why bother moving loki and sylvie around the chess board?
it just doesnt make sense, why incur the risk at all. ugh.
anyway the whole ship is sinking so who cares. the director for kang dynasties is out, the writer is out too. they are speed running it all to get dr doom in play apparently.
like we had a solid 5 hours to flesh out kangs motives and position the series for a 2 hour tour de force film in 'kang dynasties' to wrap it all up in whatever constitutes a bow and now it just feels like a weird afterthought that cant possibly make sense given that the only character capable of paradoxing his way back to an actual plot is loki.
i blame myself for being surprised because without surprise you cant be disappointed.

so i kinda pivoted on my perspective a little here. the show is called 'loki', not 'kang'. for obvious reasons kang was the star of the series for me because he was so, so, soooo good at the end of season 1. so for him to be treated (again) as kind of a solvable threat who just overplayed his hand is approximately exactly what marvel (disney) does with every single one of their antagonists.
what the show delivered, which is honestly a bit remarkable and totally unexpected, is the end of loki's story. and i never once let myself imagine thats where we were heading but i should have.
what with it being fucking called loki and all.
i imagine we will see hiddleston make some sort of reappearance at a pivotal moment in kang dynasty and then thats that. hiddleston has said this is his third time officially retiring the roll. i guess its a surprisingly impactful revelation because hes not just far and away the best actor attached to the series but also literally the only MCU character with any depth / character development, especially since they fumbled dr strange in the MoM clusterfuck.
in any case im glad we got loki. its strange for disney to agree to make something thats isnt brazenly articulated by the CIA to push military propaganda to tweens but this one time they really uncorked a banger, artistically.
less disappointed, looking at it like that. a little.
