    Jimmy= god

    The scene where they storm the white supremacists compound was so ridiculous I couldn't tell if it was a dark comedy or serious.

              interesting tidbit... katheryn kelly aka jimmy's fiance is now perm in the mix as a series regular, which is odd because i thought she and jimmy were also central to the spin-off about the 6666 ranch. i guess they are going to keep switching back and forth between the two locations until the 6666 spinoff goes into production in 2023'ish. also i hear they are going to write walker into the spinoff which is interesting sorta kinda.

                so... 1883...

                so yeah its an interesting piece of work. in terms of scope and scale its fairly incredible. the acting is, by and large, real good. which is a little shocking. but to say sam elliott carries the show doesnt feel entirely unfair and its probably because he has been waiting his whole fuckin life to play this exact role so there you go i guess.

                but its also somehow very one dimensional and naive in that classic aw shucks im just an american screenplay writer who loves cowboyin' way that taylor sheridan seems to have found his comfort zone in.

                hes good at churning out solid B level material. and lets be honest that deserves some respect. but the difference between B and cormac mccarthy A+ level is artistry and taylor sheridan just isnt an artist. the whole series just ends up feeling something like a postcard about the oregon trail more than an actual holy shit experience with actual period appropriate characters.

                but again credit where its due; a B is so much better than almost everything else out there that it deserves respect.

                  nbd but 1932 has been renamed as 1923, which is actually kind of a relief because no matter how hard i tweaked the math re the ages of the central characters in the series if they maintain continuity with the ages they established for them in 1883, i couldnt make it work honestly.

                  sliding shit back 9 years actually does kinda take the pressure off there.

                        i mean i guess i get it because they got that spinoff show but man what we are left with without him is just.... poor.

                          the fact that a criminally insane alcoholic is pulling double duty as the voice of reason and moral north star for this entire show is so brazenly problematic.

                            70% of the things that happen on this show are completely inconsequential and probably just as much thats happened in the previous seasons has been discarded/ignored.

                              this is a very hard show to take seriously because honestly no one seems to act rationally and the plot doesnt generally make a lot of sense.
