Re: Station Eleven

I didn't really know a good way to say what i liked about it without spoilers and/or creating expectation. Plot is nonsensical and pacing is awful. In my own 2 hour cut of the series i found enough to keep me interested elsewhere. I liked the idea/execution of a post-apocalyptic theater troupe doing Shakespeare, parts of the airport line and there might have been some parts i liked involving the Indian guy after they leave the city.

Also possible there was nothing else on TV at the time.

Rewatching Man in the High Castle atm and so far the new Vikings show is really bad.

Finished the finale of S2 Euphoria before the nukes. I'll wait a while to say anything about it so everyone can see it for themselves. I don't think you can say anything about it without spoilers.

im so glad i havent touched the new vikings. i really tried to finish rewatching the original and man does that shit start to smell bad even before the children of ragnar are actual characters.

i swear to god i couldnt remember. i had to read the fucking vikings wiki and was like jesus christ thats right, what an absolute fucking mess.

im not super ready to talk about euphoria yet. like i need a day to digest or something. ill say this much tho...

SPOILER1) i guess its more or less a perfect landing but im sure as shit not happy, which i guess only makes it more valid.

2) its not super clear to me why they would do a third season.

SPOILERok holy shit i thought rue was a senior. shes not, these people are all in 11th grade. nooooow season 3 makes sense. and honestly now that i think about it, doing a 4th season where everyone graduates and ends up dead or in prison kiiiiinda makes a lotta sense, ngl.

New Vikings is offensively bad.

I thinks there's more than enough stuff for a few more seasons of Euphoria and the structure of narration lends to it. I don't mind rewatching the whole show after 6 months because it keeps adding to past scenes. It's so heavily character driven that almost everything is there to support that, including the plot. That's so rare to see done well. And same can be said for flow of consciousness in any format really.

Plenty of minor gripes with this season, that i don't necessarily consider flaws. We get so many good characters that the few bland ones stand out, but you could have said that about Lexi in S1. Maybe there's hope for sad guitar guy. I think he was the closest to a character that exists there just for Rue and Jules. Ethan to a degree exists just for large boned girl.

I didn't mind Cassie's porn double. I think that's literally where the junkie with huge lips comes from. And the girl that smokes e-cig filled her part. I think they both were worth the minutes they were given on their own. I don't think that about sad guitar guy or Ethan. Not to say they didn't serve a purpose or that i could have come up with better characters for their role in the show. Being spoiled with a-tier characters likely skews my view of them. So many support characters get their own lead moments that when all them don't land as hard i likely judge them too harshly.

Semi spoilery things ahead.

I did agree with a lot of decisions in the finale though. Ashtray line works with the season and the problems it would pose in the future (also irl things). Name a "teen drama" where that solution flows with the show. Part 2 got to reap the benefits of Part 1. The structure was better executed. There's like solid 10-20 minutes of someone crying and i didn't fast forward it. There are slow somber moments that aren't necessarily needed for pacing. Basically because of the front loaded cost in Part 1 the Part 2 gets away with things i personally consider filler (and someone else viewing it could have the exact opposite view). The end end is similar to S1. It partially ties to the start of the season in several ways. It is appropriate. It is well executed. It is a cop out. I didn't mind. Once the show is over, you walk out.

on the one hand, fuck her for refusing to do as she was told which btw is literally her job as an actor.

on the other hand, she honestly was never actually an actor to begin with so it was perhaps foolish to expect her to be able to deal with that sort of pressure..?

in any case she probably makes 10x more money than me being a plus sized model so fuck it.
