About 80 pages in i can say there's about 200% more stuff in the books and the show doesn't just condense the material, it starts to deviate really fast.

The first book is split between alternating Miller and Holden chapters. Miller bits do most of the heavy lifting regarding world building. Substituting as the narrator. And that's fine, making that half enjoyable even if you don't care about Miller or the whole noir angle that's really not as prominent as it was in the show so far.

There was also a 3rd option to 4 or 8 books and that was starting from 5, but i guessed there would be enough deviation that i would be lost with just 4 seasons of the show as background.

Current plan is to go for about a book a week pace. TV in general before season 5 looks pretty bleak so it's not exactly a sacrifice. This years apple wine batch is getting ready to be bottled on Sunday. Tasting process can be deemed highly successful. First glass was shaky, but the second one is workable. It might be the diazepam kicking in, but i don't mind either way if it's drinkable.

In other random DIY projects i'm thinking of looking in to growing my own tobacco. For other projects i got relevant tools for binding my own sketchbooks that have been waiting mostly idle for few months. I did a threaded test booklet and then lost interest. Might have to do something about it in the winter months.

Oh and if Realtalk or anyone that has read the books have something to add on what to expect that would be appreciated. With some level of spoiler dodging. I don't personally care too much, but i might be in the minority in that one.

Also suggestions in the scifi/fantasy/history/crime realm are always appreciated. I think on Friday Barbarians is released. German show related to Romans and barbarians (huns, visigohts, vandals etc.). No idea if it's shown on the other side of the pond.

Raised by Wolves is coming Dec 16th here. Doubt i care enough to find a torrent or stream for it. For a random reason torrents are here illegalish and streams are legal. Mostly legal streaming service have been convenient enough, but there are blind spots with Hulu and HBO Max.

I think i'll finish the first book, but i won't like it and skip to 5th book. So far l like every decision in the first book vs the series, but it's just too recent to slog through the rest of the books before new events pop up.

Well this sucks. Apparently they start filming again in January sans Anvar.

If they don't get picked up by another network for a second time i might have to read the books.

I got halfway with the first book and then got bored. Book was better than the show, but i don't really have attention span for reading anymore. Audiobooks i guess.

i feel like the whole patois obsession would ruin the books for me but im kinda willing to scratch the itch.

honestly i wonder if anvar is why amazon demurred on renewal... that would be fairly disappointing but not really out of character in this day and age.

yea guessing some kinda toxic asset deal, they might re-think it after season 5 numbers come out and if there's backlash, but who knows

I did full five minutes of research into this and it appears the writers aren't too bummed about the turn of events. Apparently nothing to do with Anvar, ratings and the IP might have future in some other form. Movies, spin-offs or something in that vein.

There should be somewhat natural end point for some of the arcs at the end of book 6 and i'm guessing that's where they are aiming instead of trying to cram 4 books into the last season. Some mention about the production company maybe being the main culprit for wrapping the main show to six seasons. Maybe the rest of the books would have been CGI heavier or just that simply most streaming related productions are aiming more towards 3 seasons shows.

Most things are likely under NDA forever, so it's just speculation. Mostly picking up from the mood that something else is in the works.

First 3 episodes of season 5 came out a day ago. Fairly solid package and i can see why they went for the 3 ep start followed by single weekly episodes.

watched the first ep last night and ngl i really liked it. definitely some fast forward moments in the mix but not nearly enough of them for me to complain. 100% hate not being able to binge this btw but you know, i get it, i get it.

if they write out anvar via some weird space suicide im going to basically have to put a crown on this show.

Yea i didn't want to say anything too specific incase you hadn't started watching. I kinda skimmed and watched episodes in the side while doing something else with the assumption that the 3 ep package was only going to be a setup for the season.

Like almost no one is at the same place so they are going to have do some work to tie everyone to few manageable arcs.

Likely will watch all of it again with better time once the whole season is out.

Oh yea and apparently the book series is set in 3 duologies and final trilogy. Doing any justice to the final trilogy likely would have ramped the cost per ep. With an additional risk associated with 3 season commitments. So i'm guessing the creators of the show were fine with being able to finish the last duology on their own terms.

If you ran out of stuff to watch and want something more between episodes...

...i assume a running series run by Amos. Reminded me to re-watch Alien series. Makes more sense, if you ever get to ep 3 aftershow.

Oh and i try to be vague about everything before i know you've caught up to the latest episode. We could take this discussion to PFA, but there are some pitfalls with that.

Namely random shit posting, old feuds and few posters need to add to every discussion they know nothing about.

I'm kinda just hoping SS and Krypt find their way back here. Can't remember where BCB was with scifi, but we're missing Crowe at least.

Ok I just finished EP 4 and heres the thing and its kind of a problem; aside from the millions dead, I kinda like where Marco is coming from. Like his plan really doesnt sound that bad considering the original one.
