I have never read the books so I don't know exactly how accurate the movie is, but as far as films go, this was pretty amazing. Really a beautifully shot film, the acting was awesome, and I was bummed it ended. I was travelling for work and really wanted to watch in the home theater, but ended up starting it and it was too good to not watch. Going to watch again at home. Bonus watching on HBOMax was the Raised By Wolves season 2 preview. Early 2022 release.
denis villeneuve has basically eclipsed the legacy of almost everyone else in the biz.
the man comes with absolute bangers.
re book/movie/accuracy.. i dont really see how they could have done it better without extending both halves like another 60-90 minutes. which id naturally have loved.
id love to get some sort of definitive statement from DV re whats his stopping point if he gets green lit for the whole series. especially with the incumbent bene gesserit prequel series lurking in the wings...
Forgot to comment on this at the time. It was great. The end.
Well maybe few gripes. It's kinda just half a movie. It's almost all setup. I don't have a good solution to that. At least in a movie format. My favorite Dune related thing is still Dune 2 the RTS game.
i can only make one real heartfelt complaint; the use of that arabic "AAAAAAAYYYYAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH" woman howling cliche as an ambient soundtrack accent. nothing took me out of the moment faster than that sound.
its funny because compared to the source material, it fell short. but compared to every other scifi movie i can think of off the cuff it was an absolute triumph.
