i love how their mission statement of 'making the book public' has immediately u-turned into monetizing its contents for completely half baked spinoff projects despite apparently not having the faintest idea that copyright law exists.

Yea my best way of describing Dune would be the case of two Kill Bill's, only worse. I assume I'll be perfectly happy once Dune 2 is out. Technically Dune 1 was amazing. It's the cutting of the grand story arc in mid-air i consider a "flaw". There's obv smaller arcs that go for their full length, but they suffer from build up of the major arc. There's front loaded cost with set up's.

For other scifi movies, the last one that had some merit might have been Pitch Black and that was in 2000. Too bad they never made sequels to that small alienesque story that generally gained from mystery related to it's characters and world.

But yea for the most part you have to go back to the 90s to find something decent. It's kinda bad considering Alien came out in 79 and Blade Runner 82.

Mad Max 4 would be more recent, but i don't know if 3rd best Mad Max movie counts. If you live in timeline where Matrix had sequels they might have been released in the early 2000s. I likely have a spot for 5th Element in my top 10 scifi movies list, but that was also sorta last Luc Besson movie i liked. He made a Valerian movie in 2017. Might try rewatching it one day.

I don't consider most super hero movies as scifi. Most of the "universes" are closer to fantasy. Batman on it's own is neither, but sharing a universe with Wonder Woman and Aquaman with their related worlds places them firmly in contemporary fantasy.

For the days random tidbit i have, "Alien was built from the scraps of Jodorowsky's Dune". Dan O’Bannon wrote the script to Alien based on a Giger monster.

      i mean... ok ... i guess.

title is SISTERHOOD OF DUNE: MINDKILLER

which forgive me for saying it sounds deeply cancellable after the first season or two.

Johan Renck will be directing the first 2 eps of Sisterhood.

this is.. incredibly good news. he directed the first 3 episodes of Vikings and also is responsible for Chernobyl.

i mean honestly you couldnt ask for a better director here.

A synopsis for series Dune: The Sisterhood has emerged: The show is set 10,000 years prior to the events of “Dune” and follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.

            uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Christopher Walken will be The Emperor in Dune 2.

is.... is Dune 2 going to suck? because that makes about as little sense as i can imagine.

the best casting decision for The Emperor to date has been Jodorowsky offering the part to Salvador Dali. everything else has been questionable.

                    ok.

Travis Fimmel just got cast in Dune Sisterhood.

.....and theres a theory gaining steam that Raised by Wolves was cancelled to clear a path for this.

no word on what hes playing yet but smart money is on a Sardaukar.

the more i read about the exit drama and the rewrites and the actual synopsis, the more i realize this is shaping up to be a horrific redux of the amazon LOTR shitshow; there is no real valid source material so everyones visions are essentially clashing and theres no guarantee that the people who actually have read the books will be the loudest voices in the room.

also when one party is saying 'oh yeah we totally planned to completely suspend production for 7 months for a "haitus"' but also that haitus is suddenly also being used for a total rewrite, like not a good look.

id put the odds of this actually being filmed at about +300 right now and thats a conservative estimate.

and now that i think about it, when i consider that we literally scrapped westworld before the final season could be filmed, imma say +500.
