    i had completely forgotten how much i hate the writing on this show.

    1 episode down, 4 more to go, and they are all like 38 minutes if you subtract the credits.

    subtract the external shots and we probably have about 95 minutes of actual things happening left.

    how many books are they cramming into those 95 minutes again?

      I think the first book was one and a half seasons and then they started cramming more stuff per season while also cutting a lot and combining characters. This was supposed to be the 6th book, but no idea how it plays out since they only got 6 episodes for the whole thing. Fifth season either cost too much or they're doing some spinoff/movie stuff.

    ok finally knocked off ep 2 of season 6 and look im not trying to dick it up or anything but watching them rely extensively on computers for encryption and a million other things while conspicuously relying on mother fucking joysticks for actual dogfighting is just the worst worst worst look.

      holden sparing marcos life and letting him escape is arguably the most nonsensical moment in this entire show, by an absolutely massive margin.

        ok.. did they seriously just decide that the series finale would be too fucking boring if space was quiet which of course it totally fucking is so they just added sound effects fucking everywhere?

          ok well i just finished the last ep. im sure ive seen worst series finales but off the cuff i cant remember any, which is probably intentional.

          if we see a season 7, and honestly i expect we will, i'll tune in. the shows got good bones, it just gets sidelined/distracted by gimmicky hijinks.

          could be a good netflix product if they stopped cancelling everything after 1 season but i wonder what the status is of the series rights...

            And then the Asian lady with a deep voice with her own fleet. I generally liked her character, but for the rest of her ships crew i couldn't care less about. There's not much drama with characters that had no significant actions at any point of the show. It just doesn't work like that.

            they definitely invested way tf too much time and energy trying to 'seed' the next season, and also burned a lot of screen time trying to get us invested in the emotional landscapes of peripheral characters that meant nothing to me anyway, and normally id say ok hey cost of doing biz but there were pretty much at least 2 moments in every episode where i was literally like 'wait whats going on why is this major character doing this / making this decision' and 1) i had truly no fucking idea and 2) i honestly didnt care. i knew it probably wasnt going to matter and it never, ever did. like marco would constantly coming up with these "AH HAHHH BUT LITTLE DO THEY KNOW ABOUT MY SECRET ALTER MOTIVATION SCHEME" and it was supposed to be some huge dangle to keep me invested but they literally never fucking explained what it was and whatever it was, it legit didnt change anything.

            oh also on exactly zero occasions did i ever really understand the shifting loyalties between marco / asian elizabeth holmes space girlboss / mars / ring / whatever. even now i have absolutely no clue who was manning the rail guns on the ring. also and i absolutely cannot stress this enough every single moment naomi was on my screen, my stress / cortisol levels went through the roof. i dont know if it was bad direction or just terrible acting but she was really like fingernails-on-blackboard intolerable. also she went from 'i killed my son' freakout to 'lol just chilling hbu' with her fucking space boyfriend within something like 30 seconds of screentime and someone needs to be held accountable because thats indescribably poor craftsmanship.

          Yea i don't really have a good reason to why the last 2 seasons are so much worse/inconsistent. Kinda shame, because i never got the feeling people were doing the last episodes just for a paycheck. They believed in their show till the end and did a lot of extra for the show to succeed.

          ...one of the writers/showrunners and Amos talking about random stuff that's sometimes related to Expanse. Some of the after show episodes were better than the episodes they were about.

          I think my earlier guesses were that there are problems with editing, running the show and just being too familiar with source material. One day i might finish the books, just to see how they compare. But yea that thing with being too close to something can make you blind to even most obvious flaws.

          I feel like S6 tried to introduce 20 new characters and give previous 40 odd side characters a minute or two. Trying to advance the story or give additional depth to events is almost impossible when all you have is 6 episodes to begin with. It's just confusing and makes the viewers less invested most of the time.

          For all it's flaws i don't think GoT ever fell too hard to that trap. Writing in the end was shit from other reasons.
