It's stupidly simplistic but I honestly believe Russia was waiting for Olympics to be over. They value that shit just about more than any other country out there. Wouldn't be surprised if they invade within 48 hours.

something typically russian would be to engineer circumstances where they win either way.

- if they invade, they will saturate the american narrative with 'of course they invaded, biden is weak and was propping up the ukrainian terrorist regime' arguments

- if they pull back, they will saturate the american narrative with 'of course they didnt invade, biden is weak and the american intelligence community are paranoid warmongers' arguments

what i find myself considering is what intelligence they possess regarding our response posture that made this action so attractive to them. and how they got it. suffice to say i have some ideas.

but yeah russia was never going to stop wanting odessa back under its full control, and if we gave a shit we surely could have done more to stop this from coming to pass over the last couple of decades.
